Scotchies

Slept in a little and had a very relaxing morning before meeting Shane again for a trip to Scotchies. I had read about Scotchies in a couple of the travel books and it is nearby. Shane approves that this is a good place where both locals and tourists enjoy lunch. So off we go! It’s a very short ride from the RIU to Scotchies. The parking lot is pretty full but we find a spot next door. The shop owner’s to the right of Scotchies will try to sell you goods and ganja. We just kept walking past them, you can do whatever you feel like doing. I’m not here to judge.

Shane the driver joined us. Excellent jerk chicken, not sure about the sausage. This may be close to the best chicken I’ve ever had. Had festival as a side and it was real good. Rum punch was also pretty good. Very cheap as well, highly recommend. Lunch for 4 including tip was about $30.00. Find a driver or a taxi and get off of the resort and come to this place.

Hip Strip

After that excellent lunch we headed to the “Hip Strip” so the ladies could do some shopping. This may be the most overrated part of Jamaica that we’ve seen so far. Supposedly this is “the” shopping place in Montego Bay. While I’ll admit it’s much better than Cozumel or Playa del Carmen, it’s not that much better. Shop workers doing whatever they can to get you into their store that is selling the exact same thing as every other store. Although they all promise you that their price is the best. I’ll admit I’m not much of a shopper so take this review with a grain of salt. I did end up  with a Harley shirt and a few other trinkets while on this shopping excursion. I was not sad when the excursion ended. Thankfully there wasn’t a long ferry ride back after there was from Cozumel.

Made it back to the resort in plenty of time to have a couple drinks and hang out by the pool before catching this sunset from our balcony.

Ate dinner at the Asian themed restaurant. Not bad but nothing that spectacular.  You are not going to get a ton of good fresh sushi or even a great sushi roll but the food is decent. Meander #1: If staying at the RIU Montego Bay just go to the big buffet every night. We ate at a couple of the themed restaurants and they just weren’t good enough to give up the diversity of the buffet. They had some really good options every night. The night we did the Asian themed restaurant we were missing lobster tails at the buffet.

Overall, another great day in Jamaica. I can’t complain about anything, after a rocky start we are having a great time!
