St. Lucia Bound:

Up at 3:00 am to 4+ inches of fresh snow, and it was still coming down. A quick check on the Delta app and on FlightAware shows that we are still on time. A quick confirmation with the other couples that are heading out that we are still on time and good to go. The roads are definitely a mess. Luckily, it is a very early Saturday morning so there is absolutely zero traffic. Only the interstate had been plowed, so it did take us awhile longer than normal to get to the airport. Luckily, we had curbside service from one of the couples kids.

The flight was the third one out from the airport that morning and the first from our terminal so there were no lines to check in or at security. The flight still showed on time even though it was still snowing pretty hard. All was looking good and we boarded on time. However, it started to go downhill after that. It took 20 minutes to get pushed back from gate, the tug kept getting stuck. The tug was rocking the plane back and forth making a little progress each time. It was just like trying to get a car unstuck. After getting away from the gate it took a half an hour or so to deice.

So, all said and done we were 1 hour late departing from MCI. That leaves us roughly 20 minutes to get from B terminal to the international terminal for our connection in ATL. Fortunately we made it with a couple to spare.  Everyone else had boarded and they shut the door behind us.

Safely on the island!

The airport at St. Lucia is pretty small. There is no jet-way so be prepared to unload the old fashioned way. It was a rather long walk to customs from the plane. The route is marked well, but be aware that you are to walk on the left hand side of the walkway. I was confused by the arrows for a second but then realized what was going on. The trip through customs was pretty quick and easy.

We were staying at Coconut Bay Resort. It’s a nice but older resort and only about a 5 minute shuttle ride from the airport. We sprung for the Concierge Premium Package. It wasn’t that much more expensive and they do take care of you. We had personal check in service, reservations had already been made at the nice restaurants on the resort for the week. We got to pick two bottles of liquor to be delivered to the room as well as extra mixers that weren’t already in the room.  At the room we also had a bottle of champagne, a couple Piton beers and many soft drinks in the fridge. There was also a banana and grape plate sitting out for us.

Here is the view from our balcony.

Settled In:

After we got checked in we headed out to check out the resort and get a good lay of the land. The first step was at the main bar where we grabbed a Piton beer that is brewed here on the island. Piton is actually a pretty good beer, I’m pleasantly surprised.

Below is the sunset from our balcony. We’re on the Atlantic side facing East, so the sunsets aren’t spectacular. Keep that in mind when looking at an All Inclusive resort on St. Lucia.

We ate dinner at the grill (Flip Flops) by the bar. They actually make a pretty good pizza, I was rather surprised. Wait time can vary though, they definitely operate on Island Time.

Had a couple quick drinks with the group after dinner and called it a night. It’s nice going from 20 and snow to 80 and the beach in one day.
