Rum Tasting at Coconut Bay:
Early afternoon rum tasting at Coconut Bay is another recommended activity at the resort. A rum tasting is held at Harmony Pool Bar on Wednesday’s around noon. You should be prepared to sample many different types of rum. I highly recommend having either a very large late breakfast or an early lunch before the rum tasting. You could also be a little more selective and only try a couple of the higher end ones. Nine different rums are included in the tasting and you can get a second taste of a couple of them if you ask. Thankfully, they are not full size shots!
The bartenders are a blast and so are most of the people that show up for the rum tasting. Admiral Rodney, next to last on the left, is the highest end rum included in the tasting. The three bottles of rum on the right are flavored and a little weaker. All of these rums are produced on the island. Even if you are not a rum connoisseur I recommend the rum tasting at Coconut Bay. It is a good time and well worth taking an hour of your day to do something a little different. Keep in mind you don’t have to sample every one of them.
Post Rum Tasting:
A highly recommended post rum tasting activity is a long walk down the beach. I was definitely in need of an activity not involving alcohol. Walking to the end of the beach at Coconut Bay leads to a sign warning you not to pass. However, I really wanted to see what was around the point. You can also see that they are cleaning up the beach that was covered in seaweed. I mentioned the seaweed issue in this post for you to check out.
I never did make it past the point to see what was there. Coconut Bay security came up to me right after this picture was taken. They really don’t want you to go any further, but they technically can’t stop you. They said it was for safety reasons. Considering I was still feeling the affects of the rum tasting I did not argue and decided to head back.
The view looking South from the North edge of the beach at Coconut Bay. Yes, this picture would have looked much better taken at sunrise instead of midday.
