Sunset Cruise
We took a sunset cruise from Laborie for our last excursion of the trip. This trip was also set up at the Coconut Bay resort and is not that expensive. However, this excursion was possibly the only slight disappointment during our trip. This cruise takes place on a catamaran that is in very good shape and has been taken care of.
CBay advertises this trip on their website as “a picture-perfect way to experience the beauty of sunset. This romantic cruise takes you for a sail from Laborie along the west coast, near the majestic pitons in Soufriere; a great way to highlight your day. Complimentary hors d’oeurves and drinks while listening to soothing, calming music as the evening sets in.” Allow me to give you the not so marketing friendly reality sentence by sentence.
Sure, it could be considered romantic, possibly. If you consider being in rather tight proximity to more than a dozen other couples in a somewhat small area romantic. The sunset cruise does start near the pitons if you consider 6 miles as the crow flies on a small island near. You will also sail away from the pitons and toward Vieux Fort Bay. The last sentence in their statement is more or less correct. But, take my advice and do not get a rum punch for your beverage! There is no way to describe this drink in a flattering way. Stick to the Piton beer.
This was the best view that we had of the pitons while on the cruise. Notice that you can only see part of Gros Piton and none of Petit Piton. Still a nice view though and the weather was perfect!
Finished Complaining
The waters are gentle and the cruise lasts a couple hours. The sun sets quick since you are so near the equator and the crew will take pics of you on your phone as the sun sets. Ours did not turn out well, but it was not their fault. I was having a bad hair day and I’ve mentioned in other posts that I won’t post selfies very often. So, for your sake I’m leaving this one out.
The sunset was gorgeous and this picture does it no justice. I did not see the green flash during this sunset. But, one of the crew did say she saw it. She also said she sees it every time. I’ll take her word for it.
After the cruise back to the pier we were shuttled back to the resort. Spent some time at the main lobby bar before calling it a night. Here’s another hint for you. Always specify the rum/tequila/vodka that you want in your drink. Otherwise, they’ll give you the cheap call liquor. If you ask politely enough (and are a generous tipper) they will track down a bottle of Grand Marnier for your Patron margaritas.
