Overview:
Work trip to Austin, TX March 21st through the 23rd 2018. Flew Southwest, rented a car from National and stayed at the Holiday Inn Austin Town Lake
The Good:
No problems with the Southwest flight in either direction.
Automatic room upgrade; didn’t even have to ask.
Rainey Street
Craft Pride
Unbarlievable
The not-so good:
Austin traffic – 1 hr to get the 11 miles from our office to my hotel downtown.
National car selection. Either a small Kia or a full-sized Chevy pick-up in the Emerald Isle. I used to own a Chevy Silverado and it was nice driving one while I was in Austin.
Dinner and drinks:
Good dinner and an inexpensive 512 IPA at the hotel. I had the Asian shrimp or whatever they call it there. Not too bad for hotel food. The second night was better and the weather was perfect. Enjoyed the short walk to Rainey Street for food and beverage.
Room:
Upon check-in I learned that my room had been upgraded. That was a pleasant surprise since I don’t stay at IHG hotels near as much as I used to. The upgrade was to a King Executive room. Top level of the tower part of the hotel. Not a lake view but still better than a standard room.
TV:
Decent size TV with the normal selection of channels. As normal, TV was just background noise for what little time I spent in the room not working.
Bed:
No problems and I slept great.
AC:
Quiet and kept the room nice and cool.
Shower:
One thing I like about Holiday Inn over Hilton properties is the shower. Holiday Inn shower heads and towels are the best.
Bathroom:
Pretty cramped; not a lot of room. Thankfully I don’t need a lot of space to get ready in the morning.
Not an awful view of north bound I-35 from downtown Austin.
Check-out:
No problem; dropped off key and gave them the room number. Receipt was emailed to me within minutes.
Comments:
This is an old hotel and although it has been recently remodeled its age does show in some parts. Only one elevator for the tower I was in was working while I was there. There is free parking in the attached garage which is nice.
