Mere Bulles

So on day two our customer persuaded us to try Mere Bulles for lunch, which is a very short drive. It looks a little fancy and overpriced for a typical lunch but we decide to give it a try anyway. We pull up to a building that had to be an old plantation or mansion of some sort. It is very impressive and we were late enough for lunch that there was plenty of parking available. Here is a little bit of the history of Mere Bulles.

I had the Santa Fe Chicken for lunch. It was a great lunch and one of the few items that wouldn’t destroy my per diem and have me pay for my own dinner later in the day. I must say that the Sante Fe Chicken was very good and the service was close to excellent. The only mishap was that one of my coworkers Sprite’s ended up getting refilled with water. Oops, no big deal though. The wait staff figured it out and fixed it in a hurry. Easy miscommunication between our waitress and the new person that was in training.

Jonathan’s Grille

We Ubered to Jonathan’s Grille after happy hour at the Embassy Suites.  Seems like a decent bar with plenty of sports on the many TV’s. I opted for the Bam Bam Shrimp Tacos. They’re not quite as good as the Bang Bang Shrimp at Bonefish, but they are pretty good. I can recommend them for anyone that likes shrimp and a little heat. Also the beer is cheap, but watch out for expensive mixed drinks.

Pei Wei

The next day we had lunch at Pei Wei. This was my first visit ever to Pei Wei. It was not exactly what I was expecting, but not a bad experience. I had the Spicy General Tso’s Rice Bowl. It wasn’t bad, it also wasn’t great. I was wanting it to be a little spicier since the menu says it’s very spicy. I did eat most of it. I’m not sure that I’ll ever search for a Pei Wei for a meal, but if it’s convenient I’d eat there again.

Gibson Cafe

Dinner on my last evening was at the Gibson Cafe at the airport. This followed quite the fiasco of trying to find a gas station near the airport. At least, I had plenty of time before my flight because I messed up somehow. I drove all over the place trying to find a gas station. Make sure to plan that out before you head to the airport. This was not my first time eating at the Gibson at BNA. You can read about my previous visit here. I was actually trying to find another place to eat but this was the only restaurant where I could find a seat. That’s not usually a good sign. The service was a little quicker this time than it was the first time I was here, but still not that speedy. I had the Seafood Bisque and a Sweetwater 420 IPA. The food and the beer were both decent for being at an airport. I will find someplace else to eat the next time I’m in the Memphis airport.

Not a bad work trip overall. Decent food all around and Nashville is a great town. I wish there would have been some time to make it downtown. Maybe next time!
