Flight to Florida

Flight from KC to Pensacola uneventful but expensive. Had a layover in Nashville. Decided to grab a bite to eat at Gibson’s in the airport. I’ll admit I was a little concerned as their service was SLOW. Don’t stop here if you’re connection is tight! It took 20 minutes to get our drinks. I ordered the Hot Chicken and was very nervous considering the service we were receiving. However, it was actually pretty good. I’m not sure if it was authentic Nashville Hot Chicken or not, but I was happy with the meal once it finally arrived.
There were two couples on the trip, the other couple owned the condo on the beach in Miramar Beach where we were staying. We were pretty late getting in on the first night so we didn’t really get to see much outside. However, when we woke up in the morning this was the view from the balcony. Plenty of turquoise water and white sugar sand beaches.

View of beach from the condo.

Lunch

Decided to go for a walk down the beach. Headed West from the condo after crossing the road to the beach. Walked slowly for a mile towards Destin checking out the beach and the surf. Came across Pompano Joe’s. I believe I read somewhere that that is a place to check out in the area. A little early for lunch but what the heck. This is a pic from just outside of Pomano Joe’s from the beach side. Wow, what a nice beach! I think I could get used to this!

So we went in to Pompano Joe’s and were seated at a table overlooking the beach, can’t complain about that. Oh, look, there’s a lunch special on margarita’s. What a great way to wreck the afternoon. Tried one and figured it would be a watered down or very tart margarita. It was not, it was actually a very well balanced and not shy of tequila margarita. Maybe we should not have had two of them. But, hey, that’s how life goes while on vacation. Had a great Cuban Sandwich for lunch with the margarita’s. Overall I would highly recommend Pompano Joe’s as a lunch stop in the area. Our service was excellent, the food was very good and the atmosphere was great.

After leaving Joe’s we stopped by Emerald Coast Wine Cellars, because why wouldn’t you  stop by a winery on the way back to the condo after having a couple margarita’s. Overall the place was pretty nice. The sample list was like a dozen different wines, and we tried most. They were very small pours. I’m sorry but U.S. grapes outside of California, Oregon and Washington don’t appeal to me that much. Call me a snob or any other name, but I don’t like overly acidic and sweet wines. Yes, a couple of the many wines that were available for tasting were pretty good. But, for 20 bucks a bottle I can find a pretty darn good wine from California.

Now it was back to the condo for some much deserved down time. Rested a little and then off to the store to get some much needed supplies.

Dinner

After stocking up we went to dinner at Mezcal Mexican Grill. It was very close to the condo and had pretty good reviews. I was a little nervous when we got there and there wasn’t much of a crowd. Had a decent margarita and a pretty good dinner. I didn’t take any notes and forgot what I had, but it was pretty good. You can definitely find something good on the menu.

Pretty much done shortly thereafter following a day filled with a couple good meals, good drinks and a walk on the beach.
