Off to the Airport

On November 26th I headed to the airport for a Nashville, TN work trip. This is my third trip to Nashville, but only the second one where I was able to go outside of the airport. I had a brief layover on my way to Florida earlier this year. You can read about that trip here.

It was a Monday afternoon and there was still some snow pack on the roads from a weekend snowstorm. There was a long line getting checked in at Park Air. Several of the employees didn’t make it in to work because of the snow. The staff that did show up were still very courteous even after a long day in the cold with not much help.

The security line was longer than normal but, it still didn’t take longer than 10 minutes. But, this is the longest I’ve seen the line for PreCheck at KCI. A heads up for flying through KCI, this is not a major airport and the lines do not tend to get very long.

Grabbed a Stella at Jose Cuervo’s Tequileria while waiting for my late day flight. There were “Service” dogs growling at yipping at each other in the restaurant the whole time I was there. That really added to the ambiance of a somewhat iffy airport restaurant to begin with.

The flight to Nashville was uneventful. It is a bit of a hike from the gate to the rental car facility. It’s not too bad, but it takes you on a little hike outdoors. So be aware in case it’s cold outside. The route’s covered the entire way.

National

National had a line about 8 people deep waiting to pick up a car. Not much of a choice as the cars were being picked up as soon as they showed up. I ended up with a Hyundai Tuscon. I was starting to get used to the Camaro’s, so this is a bit of a change. While the little SUV had no power to speak of it was not too bad of a ride. I can’t say that I would seek one out though. Keep that in mind when you’re picking out a car.

Nashville

Left the airport in the Tuscon and headed out to the Embassy Suites, Nashville South Cool Springs. I got very lucky leaving the airport and going in the correct direction. The GPS on my phone did not have a good fix and wasn’t updating when I left the rental car facility. Luckily I was heading in the right direction once everything got up and running again.

The Embassy Suites was a nice hotel. The staff was professional and friendly. This was also one of the few times I received an upgrade to a premium room when asking for one at a Hilton property. The standard answer for me is usually there is not one available.

As you can see below there is plenty of room on the vanity.

And there is this awesome chaise lounge for hanging out in the main room.

This was a standard Embassy Suites room with which I never have any complaints. I recommend staying in this hotel for business travel. But, for personal travel I would stay some place closer to downtown. Then enjoy the awesome scene on lower Broadway.

Dinner

For dinner I headed to the Brewhouse South which is not too far from the hotel. This is not a bad place for dinner. I have been to better brew pubs but considering how close this was to the hotel I can’t complain. Service was OK, not great and their beer menu was OK, not great. There was quite a bit of variety on the food menu. I ended up going with the Pasta De Louisiane. It was a lot of food, way too much for me for dinner. I ended up leaving most of the linguine and eating most of the protein.

Washed the pasta down with a made in Nashville, TN Bearded Iris Homestyle IPA that did not disappoint. I always try a local IPA when travelling for business or for pleasure.

Headed back to the hotel after that and ran into a co-worker at the bar at the Embassy. We had a couple quick beverages to finish the day. The bartenders at the Embassy are all very friendly and professional.
